Frequently asked questions
Is Tampa police radio encrypted?
No. Tampa PD and the Hillsborough County Sheriff still dispatch in the clear. Some tactical and warrant channels are encrypted — patrol dispatch is not. That makes Tampa one of the better remaining markets in Florida.
What about Jacksonville or Orlando?
Both have encrypted their police radio, which is why we don’t sell them as police-scanner markets. Tampa is genuinely different — that’s the whole reason this page exists.
Do I have to program it myself?

I’m in St. Pete, Clearwater or Pasco — will it work?
