The UV-5R Mini is a transceiver, not a receive-only scanner. We sell it, and programme it, for listening. Listening needs no licence. Transmitting is a different matter — sending on public safety, business or amateur frequencies without the appropriate FCC licence is illegal, and the channels we load are for monitoring only. If you want to transmit legally, look into an amateur radio licence first.

I was already familiar with this radio, very compact, excellent reception with its original antenna, a bit weak in transmission but I solved this by replacing its original antenna with a Baofeng UV-5 (Quansheng) brand one. Easy to program with the Olà app, the radio is very convenient for amateur radio activities and section coordination. Accurate shipping, very fast, about 10 days for delivery. Simple equipment, simplified manual, strap and belt clip. Overall, I recommend the purchase, especially for new radio amateurs.
