Los Angeles Police Scanner
Hear What’s Happening Across Los Angeles
Live LAPD, Sheriff, fire and paramedic calls for the city and county — on a scanner we set up for your address before it ships.
Yes — Los Angeles is still one of the best cities in America to own a scanner. LAPD division dispatch is open, the Sheriff’s patrol channels are open, and LAFD and County Fire are open. We program all of it for your exact address before we ship, so it arrives already listening to your part of a very large city.
What you’ll be hearing
Your LAPD division
LAPD works by bureau and division — Valley, West, Central, South, Harbor. We load the divisions that actually cover your street, not a generic citywide list.
L.A. County Sheriff
Sheriff patrol dispatch for the unincorporated areas and the contract cities, from Santa Clarita to the South Bay.
Fire & paramedics
LAFD and L.A. County Fire dispatch, plus rescue ambulance traffic — the calls you hear the sirens leaving for.
Freeways & brushfire season
CHP’s Los Angeles communications center on the freeway network, and fire crews working brush and wind events in real time.
We do the hard part for you
Nothing to program. Los Angeles County has more than eighty separate police agencies and some of them are encrypted. Give us your address and we work out which ones actually reach you, load those, and tell you honestly what you will and won’t hear before you spend a dollar.
Frequently asked questions
Is LAPD encrypted?
No. LAPD division dispatch is unencrypted and receivable on a scanner today — that is unusual for a city this size, and a lot of websites get it wrong. Some specialised units are encrypted, but the patrol traffic that makes up the vast majority of the day is in the clear.
What about Pasadena, Santa Monica or Beverly Hills?
Several independent cities inside L.A. County have encrypted their police radio, and those are genuinely gone. Tell us your address and we’ll say so plainly — in most of those areas we can still load LAPD, the Sheriff, county fire and CHP, which is a lot of live traffic.
Do I have to program it myself?
No. We program it for your exact Los Angeles address before it ships. Open the box, turn it on, and you’re listening.
Will it work in the Valley or up in the hills?
Usually yes, but the Santa Monica and San Gabriel mountains cast real radio shadows. If your address is in a pocket that’s hard to reach, we’ll tell you before you order and recommend an outdoor antenna instead of letting you find out the hard way.
Is it legal to listen in California?
Yes. Listening to public-safety radio is legal. What’s not legal anywhere is using what you hear to commit or assist a crime.

Programmed by hand
Your zip code specifically — not a generic regional preset.
Free US shipping
Included on every order, anywhere in the United States.
No license needed
Listening requires no FCC license and no radio experience.
We check first
Send your zip and we'll tell you what's actually receivable there.
Which one is right for you?
Before you order, let us check your area
Most US counties still run analog on at least some public safety channels. A growing number have moved to encrypted or digital P25 systems that no analog scanner can receive — at any price.
Send us your zip code and we'll tell you honestly what's receivable where you live. We'd rather turn down a sale than ship you a radio that can't hear your county.
